Claiming free school meals
If your child is eligible for free school meals it means they can enjoy delicious, healthy meals without the bills and the fuss of making packed lunches.
School meals will give your child a real appetite for learning and help them to increase their energy. Claiming Free School Meals could save your family’s budget around £400 a year for each secondary school pupil and £370 for each primary school pupil!
This could pay your electricity bill for a whole year!
Your child may be entitled to receive free school meals if you are entitled to receive one of the following:
Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and their annual income does not exceed £16,190. (HM Revenue and Customs are responsible for assessing the level of annual income.)
Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
Universal Credit with take-home earnings from work of no more than £7400 per year (as calculated for Universal Credit purposes)
How can free school meals be claimed?
Families wishing to claim the allowance can do so in a number of ways.

Alternatively, you can get an application form from the school that your child/children attend or from the Isle of Anglesey County Council Education Service - please see the contact details on the right.
